If you’ve been asking when does ETIAS start, the short answer is: not yet, because the latest ETIAS delay pushes the Europe travel authorization back to at least 2027. In this post, I’ll share what the delay means for your travel to Europe, where the EES Entry Exit System stands, and a peek at the trips currently on my desk.
When Does ETIAS Start? Not Until at Least 2027
Europe Delays Start of ETIAS Until at Least 2027.
This was the first headline in my news yesterday, and I have to say, I’m not at all surprised. This is exactly the kind of thing I keep an eye on for you, so you don’t have to; one less border rule to track while you’re planning your next trip.

Why the Europe Travel Authorization Keeps Getting Delayed
This has been in the works since 2016 and keeps getting pushed back. The latest holdup is tied to border system issues already causing long lines at some European airports. The good news? You don’t need to do anything right now. If you have a trip to Europe planned this year or next, ETIAS isn’t a factor yet. I’ll keep you posted when it’s really ready.
EES: The Entry Exit System Could Be Paused, Too
ETIAS isn’t the only Europe travel requirement in flux. There has been talk of temporarily suspending EES, also, and I’ll keep you posted on that, too.
What’s on My Desk: Trips in the Works
While that sorts itself out, my own desk has been busy. Here’s what I’m working on…
- Vienna Christmas trip, with an overnight in Salzburg, the kind of holiday magic that’s hard to beat, with markets, lights, and a concert built in
- Portugal, an early December trip timed for the off-season, when Lisbon and the Algarve are quieter, and prices are lower
- Sicily, finishing touches underway for a memorable trip
- Botswana, deep in planning for a solo female traveler headed out on safari. I think she and I are soul sisters with our love of Elephants!
- Costa Rica honeymoon, planning is underway for a couple looking for adventure and romance in one trip
- Japan and Malaysia honeymoon, another couple’s honeymoon coming together, blending Japan’s culture with Malaysia’s beaches and rainforest
- Croatia Yacht Cruise, the trip I’m hosting. There are still a few cabins left, if you’re interested in joining us.

The Bottom Line on Europe Travel Requirements
So, when does ETIAS start? Not until at least 2027, and until the European Travel Information and Authorization System and the EES Entry Exit System officially launch, Europe travel requirements stay exactly as they are today. I’ll keep tracking the ETIAS delay and every Europe travel authorization update, so your only job is deciding where your next travel to Europe adventure will take you.
If any of that sounds like the kind of trip you’ve been meaning to plan, now’s the time. There’s still room on the calendar this year, but it’s filling up fast, especially around the holidays.
Reach out, and let’s get your trip on the books before the good dates disappear. Ready to make it happen? Book a consultation, and I’ll handle the details, border rules included.

“We recently decided to go to Egypt and Jordan. We connected with Deb and we could not have been happier. She even came to our house, spending a considerable amount of time, reviewing the itinerary and answering last minute questions. In addition, the app was great as was all the travel documents/site information. We will definitely be returning customers!”
